Deputy PM: Digital ministry to create mobile operator for new regs

MOSCOW, Feb 10 (PRIME) -- Russia’s government has ordered the Digital Development Ministry to create a single mobile connection operator to cover the territories of four new regions, where the tariffs are already the same as in the rest of the country, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko told PRIME on Friday.

“Work is now organized to monitor the quality of mobile connection, get feedback from the people. The tariffs are at the country’s level now,” he added.

The deputy prime minister said that the government is restoring and developing connection networks in the new areas, engaging local and large nationwide companies.

“The Digital Development Ministry is ordered to build more than 1,500 base stations in the new areas by March next year,” Chernyshenko said.

Work is in progress to integrate the industries of connection and IT “into the Russian regulatory environment.” He said that the operators will be able to use all the available measures of support, including lower payments for frequencies, a ban on checks, lower tax rates, and the like.

The Digital Development Ministry said at the end of 2022 that the currently working operators will continue to function in the new territories: MirTelecom and K-Telecom in the Zaporozhskaya and Khersonskaya regions; Mobile Communications Systems in the republic of Lugansk; and Republican Connection Operator in the republic of Donetsk.
